Couple Found An Injured Stray Dog On Their Porch And Gave Her A Forever Home

One day, April and Joe Sullivan found an unlikely guest lying on their porch—an injured stray pit bull who was in pretty bad shape. Their house is in the middle of 40 acres, so they did not have a clue how the dog ended up there. The dog appeared to be seriously injured and severely abused, so the couple decided to help her.

The couple’s granddaughter saw the dog and tried to pet her. But her grandparents told her to be extra careful since sick and injured dogs can be overly sensitive and can snap any time. But this pitbull, whom they later named Betsy, was far from being harmful—she was nothing but sweet.

After careful inspection, the Sullivans found out that the dog injured her hip, so she was unable to walk on her own. They then brought her to the nearest veterinarian for urgent pet care. The vet confirmed that Betsy suffered a broken hip and that she had sustained nerve damage and had a severe parasite infestation.

The couple felt the need to help the poor dog, but they were not keen on adopting her since they already have dogs of their own. But Joe was torn. He knew more than the physical treatment, what Betsy needed was a forever home and a family to love and care for her.

Getting Betsy treated would cost the Sullivans a significant amount of money, but they didn’t want to give up on her. Betsy found their home for a reason. So the couple agreed to keep her once her treatment’s complete.

Betsy could not thank the Sullivans enough for giving her a second chance at life. She recovered quickly, and she is now living her life to the fullest. Her dog siblings gladly welcomed her, and so they are now one big happy family.

Some time ago, I had a dog. It was a beautiful Dalmatian dog called Basil. We got him as a puppy. Unfortunately, when he was less than one year old, he started having epileptic fits. We took him to a doctor, and he prescribed him some medication that had to be given to him twice a day, but still, he had the fits from time to time. He grew to be a big a strong dog, so when he had a fit, the nearby furniture was flying everywhere. It was very distressing for us. Otherwise, he was a very loving but mischievous dog. Especially when our food was served on the table, he would jump and steal the meat. Very naughty. Obviously, we didn’t teach him good manners. He loved eating raw courgettes. So life with Basil was very happy but not very easy. When he was six years old, he had a fit but couldn’t come out from it. Our vet took him to his surgery but was not successful, and after a conference with us had to put him to sleep. We were devastated, especially my children. So now we just have a lot of happy memories and our photos. To honor Basil's legacy, I continue to write articles about fun-loving dogs that remind me of him. I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I do!
