Back in 2010, Eric O’Grey, a sales manager of a famous clothing line, sought the help of a medical doctor. The reason for his consultation is his increasing weight gain. At 51 during that time, the man has already reached 200 pounds, an unhealthy weight for his age.
The weight gain is especially bad for Eric because he had Type II diabetes as well as high cholesterol. When he learned of these diseases, he feared for his life as well as his family’s. He said he does not want to be a burden to his family due to his obesity. Hence, he consulted with a naturopathic doctor regarding his case.
The unnamed doctor checked on Eric, and later on, gave him a rather unusual prescription. According to Eric, he got shocked when the doctor advised him to get a dog. The reason for this, Eric recalled, is for the dog to help him exercise.
Back then, Eric was still reluctant about the prescription. He, though, realized that he should give it a try. So, Eric contacted the Humane Society of Silicon Valley and inquired about a dog’s availability. Eric even jokingly asked the person on the line if there was a dog who is also obese. Surprisingly, there was, and Eric knew that they are meant to be.
The pooch, named Peety, is a seven-year-old Collie-Australian Shepherd mix. The dog is weighed at 75-pound and needs a new home he could spend the rest of his life with. In an interview, Eric recalled that his first meeting with the pooch was somewhat awkward.
But after that, it went smooth sailing. Eric and Peety inspired each other to better themselves. They started exercising together to shed some fats out of their body. Their hard work paid off as after two years, they both became fit and healthy.
