Although there are increasing numbers of no-kill shelters all across the country, there are still shelters that euthanize dogs because of overcrowding. Stray dogs are still a problem in a lot of cities all across the country. Many shelters are already overcrowded with dogs, and with limited funding, unwanted dogs are euthanized.
A dog named Pudge was taken in a stray. Because he was a pit bull-type dog, Pudge had a small chance of getting adopted. The shelter gave Pudge only 24-hours to live before he was euthanized. Unless someone comes in to adopt Pudge, he will be put to sleep.
Thankfully, a woman named Melissa heard about Pudge and decided to adopt him. When she first saw Pudge, Melissa fell in love with him, and she knew that Pudge would be the perfect dog to add to her family. Pudge is quite a large dog with unique features that made him look cuddly.
Melissa could hardly believe that a dog that looked like Pudge existed until she met him. Pudge finally found a forever home, thanks to Melissa. However, Pudge didn’t know how to be part of the family. He didn’t know what a couch was and didn’t even know how to jump onto one.
Pudge also didn’t want to be touched. Whenever Melissa tried to pet Pudge, he would growl at her. It wasn’t the best start for Melissa and her new dog, but Melissa knew that somewhere inside, Pudge is a loving dog. So, Melissa gave Pudge as much space as he needed.
To be closer to Pudge, Melissa would shower him with love. Whenever he did something for the first time, Melissa would celebrate it no matter how little Pudge’s progress was. Melissa was very patient with Pudge and never gave up on him. It took about a year for Pudge to completely trust Melissa.
Pudge eventually learned how to climb onto the couch, and he even spends his time laying on Melissa’s lap. Thanks to Melissa, Pudge finally learned to trust humans. Melissa’s love, care, patience eventually saved a dog’s life. Here’s an adorable video showing how Pudge slowly became a puppy again.
