Police dogs risk their lives to keep us safe. They joined the force when they were still puppies to help them get accustomed to a K-9 officer’s lifestyle. They’re then trained, so they know how to protect humans whenever they sense danger.
When Brady Snakovsky caught wind of the sacrifices these police dogs make to keep humans safe, he decided to do something. He raised funds so he could buy bulletproof vests for these hardworking K-9 officers. He knew how dangerous these police dogs’ jobs were; he figured bulletproof vests might give them protection while they’re in the line of duty.
A young boy’s discovery
Snakovsky was watching Live PD, his favorite police show, when one of the police dogs caught his eye. The K-9 officer was not wearing a bulletproof vest. Later on, he discovered that these dogs are not given access to bulletproof vests. Worried about the dogs’ safety, he took it upon himself to donate bulletproof vests to police dogs.
When Snakovsky learned that one bulletproof vest costs $1200, he doubled his efforts. He set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the vests. The young boy’s story went viral, and a lot of people sent him their donations. Snakovsky ended up raising more than $90,000. It was more than enough for one canine ballistic vest!
Because of Snakovsky, 134 police dogs were given bulletproof vests. People were so inspired by what he did, that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals decided to name him “Kid of the Year.”
A police officer in the making
Snakovsky plans on being a police officer someday. His eyes light up whenever cops become the topic of conversation. Th=e young boy has a strong desire to serve the people and to do good deeds. Snakovsky’s still raising funds so he can give bulletproof vests to other police dogs.
