The practice of praying before meals is an age-old tradition. In some families, giving thanks to the food on the table is an important part of mealtime.
For a particular family, saying grace before meals is an integral part of their lifestyle that they even taught their dog to do it. Every time he eats, the dog bows down on the ground to pray with his human dad.
In one instance, mom caught a video of dad and the pup praying. The video was uploaded on social media, and it became viral. On YouTube alone, the video has almost three million views.
The video begins with dad and an 11-month-old yellow Labrador puppy walking toward the dog bowl. Dad was holding some dog food in a measuring cup.
“Let’s eat,” dad said to the pup, Kahlua. The dog was excited for his meal, but dad told him to sit and stay as he poured the dog food in the bowl. Kahlua obediently complied.
“Let’s pray,” dad said to the pup. Dad went on his knees and braced his elbows on the floor before praying. The Lab puppy also lowered his body toward the floor – an act that looked like he was bowing down – to pray with his dad. Both dad and pup closed their eyes.
“Lord, we ask that you bless this food and nourishment to our bodies,” dad prayed. Kahlua appeared to be listening intently to what dad was saying.
“We’re very grateful and appreciative of everything we have,” dad continued. “Thank you, Lord, for everything. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”
As soon as dad said the word “amen,” Kahlua knew prayer time was over. He got up, went to his bowl, and started to eat. “Good boy,” his dad told him.
On his YouTube channel, the yellow Lab’s dad said the pup continued the practice of praying before meals even as he grew up. Watch Kahlua’s viral video below.
